To all High School German Teachers of New Jersey and
To all German-American Organizations in New Jersey
The German Heritage Council of New Jersey will again award several scholarships
in the amounts of $500 - $1,500. The
applicants must be 1. high school seniors, 2. speak German and either
3. study in a high school or have an immediate family member who belongs to a German Organization and 4. plan to go on to study at a college,
university or technical school.
Each school or organization may only send two names of applicants.
The German Heritage Council of New Jersey WILL NOT send out application forms. They must be downloaded from this page. We urge all High School teachers and all Organization representatives
to make this information available to applicable students. We wish all
applicants good luck and remind them that all applications must be
postmarked no later than April 15, 2008 with all the support material
and addressed to

The
applicant must:
- Be a resident
of New Jersey
- Be one of only
two recommended by the high school teacher per school year or from a German culture Organization.
- Speak German
(equivalent of two years of high school German) and express
an interest in the German culture.
- Provide a summary
of academic achievements
- A summary of
all extracurricular activities (see questionaire
page1 and page2)
- Submit an essay
in German (one page type written maximum) on "Was
bedeutet Deutsch für mich?". The student should
write the essay without the help from parents and/or teachers
or anyone else, etc.
- Be selected
for admission to either a four or two year university,
college, nursing school, vocational or technical school

- High school transcript including SAT scores
- The completed questionnaire

the following attachments:
- Completed Application
form
- One copy of the
essay in German without the student's name or high school
- The high school
transcript, must include SAT scores
- The completed
extracurricular activity form page1 and page2 without student's
name or school
The
decision of the judges is final. The awards will be made payable
to the applicant and the institution attended. The winners
will be notified on or before June 1, 2008.
